Link building is a very important part of any SEO campaign. It is quite easy to find free links in crappy legal directories or general directories but they aren't worth much. Additionally, many of them require reciprocal links and you really don't want to link out to link farm sites or shady directories. Finding quality free links is an entirely different story.
